MUKTI is a Project of the Traditional Yoga Association® , a registered charity based in England (Charity No. 1091469) that seeks to promote all aspects of Yoga. MUKTI was founded in 1998 by Swami Ambikananda and colleagues in the TYA in order to raise funds for the education and care of dispossessed and endangered children and women in India.
MUKTI supports a number of projects that include: The Naz Care Home for abandoned children who are HIV positive or have AIDS.
Trudie Styler – actor, film-producer, environmentalist, yogini and wife of Sting – is MUKTI ’s patron.
Trudie had been making a film with Iqbal Massih, a Pakistani boy who was forced into bonded labour at the age of 4 but escaped when he was 10 and became an international spokesperson for children in bonded labour. Tragically, Iqbal was murdered when he was 12 and the film project ceased. MUKTI ’s work was therefore close to Trudie’s heart and she has been a constant support of our fund-raising for the street children of India.
